  Artist: [Gothica]
CD Title: [Night Thoughts]
Label: [Cruel Moon/CMI]
Reviewer: [Marcos M.]
Date: [8-03]

"The rather impressive debut album by this Italian band. Don't let their name nor album title fool you because the sound of Gothica is far from cliché & while themes stylistically close to that of other gothic-ethereal acts like Love is Colder Than Death, Arcana, & label mates & fellow countrymen, the multi talented Ataraxia. This young duo brings about their own interpretations & fresh visions of medieval, gothic lushness that explores ancient lands, sunless romance, myths & legends. Allesandra´s gorgeous operatic voice hits many ranges & tones, racking her right up there w/ some of ethereal´s best vocalists. Roberto provides vocals on some of the piece's, though in more deep, subdued whispers that only adds more flavor to the exotically dark themes on this album. Some of the lyrics are from classical poets such as Gustavo Adolfo Becquer, Delgado Jose Espronceda, Pedro Calderon Barca, etc., while the haunting, baroque music itself is all original. Perfect listening for love making on rainy nights in candlelight! Also, be sure to check out their newest effort, "The Cliff of Suicide". www.geocities.com/gothicahomepage/main.htm
