Reviews CD Reviews Gothic Sapphire Solace- Sapphire Solace

As a long time fan of Rick Joyce and his work with The Last Dance, I was very excited about this new combo.

Sapphire Solace is comprised of Rick Joyce (guitars, programming) and newcomer Velvet Shadow on vox.

This self-titled release is seven songs that reflect a deep understanding of gothic music and culture. As always, Rick's guitar stands out and soldifies this somber array of fine tunes. However I'm intrigued by Velvet Shadow's voice as it reminds me of Reliquary and Switchblade Symphony in her phrasing and delivery.

The first two songs ("Take A Look Inside" and "Completely") have a classic and more introspective sound while others like "Too Late" and "Finally" reflect a cyber/dance sound with more electronics and crunchy programming for the boot-stompers out there.

All in all a great release with a little something for everyone. I hope everyone gets a chance to hear this and please look the band up on Myspace and request it from your DJ. I'm already looking forward to the next outing form this pair and congratulations to both on a fine first album.
