Gothminister

Angel ( CD Single)

Tatra Records

Review by Julie Johnson 4/20/02

Gothminister is a newcomer to the scene. They are from Norway, and they rock! They do a great job of combing and crossing gothic and industrial elements. The singer has a dark baritone voice that is perfect for this band. The vocals are also whispered with distortion, but not to the point that you can't make out what they are saying. I really like the mix of the vocals. The industrial music part is loud, and crashing. It is great. The guitars are thunderous, and melded together with dark and sinister synths to give it gothic appeal. They are not afraid to make lots of noise with great melody. "Angel" the single is very heavy hitting, and the synths rise with sinister sounds and the dark vocals really shine during the chorus. The extra thick baritone vocals work really well in this song. "March of the Dead" has a strong beat that is very effective. This is a heavy song, and had great dance beats. This is a very cold and sinister song, but is very alive. They are definitely hard, heavy, but do it so perfectly it is scary. At first, I could not get past the first song, "Angel", and then I heard the next track "March of Dead", a little more of the gothic side with intense beats mixed in. I am really looking forward to more.
