Before I received a copy of the demo "More Than This", I had never heard of London's Living With Eating Disorders. After some extensive research, and devouring every bit of material I could dig up, I discovered a truly unique and under-rated band that is not afraid to sacrifice mainstream popularity to do exactly what they want to.

The crossbreed of intelligent, progressive programming and abstract instrumentation, Living With Eating Disorders embody the true essence of experimental electronic music. This is music that is simply impossible to categorize into a single genre.

The emotionally personal lyrics and vocals delivered by the extremely talented and alluring Andrea Kerr blend seamlessly with the dark electronic melodies and hypnotic textural atmospheres that range from industrial to trip-hop to trance-rock.

Vocals that morph unexpectedly from a sensual, moody, whisper-like quality to a harsh yet intoxicating and fierce growl, and back again. Low, underlying bass tones that pulse like energy, crunchy guitars that merge into subtle harmonics, and rhythmic drums that beat like a heart lift and transport you over a strange and frightening yet familiar landscape of loss, pain, and disillusion with incredible speed and ferocious intensity.

The track that really caught my attention was "Lullaby". The juxtaposition of the abrasive electronics and soft, harmonic guitar riff create an aural union that puts me in a trance state. This song is brilliant...and very aptly titled. Next we have "Envy", a slow dirge that builds into a rocking sonic assault. The closing track is "Fading Softly", which is exactly how this demo ends.

With their extreme musical diversity and originality, Living With Eating Disorders are in a class all their own. After hooking up with producer John Fryer and Something To Listen To Records, the band has continued to evolve musically. This is dedicated music that will pull you in with its ambient melancholy and hold you prisoner with its seductive and deadly siren song.
