This collection of songs as a haunting soundscape that creates mood that’s brooding and often confusing in an artistic way of play. This collection of songs is apparently made up of various recording made during and extended stay in the Appalachian area, a sojourn as they put it. The group themselves describe their work as a “Sound collage meets post industrial meets folk.”
The songs vary from song to song. Some of them play with voiceovers, some that are easily distinguishable and other that are pushed to the background creating a haunting almost E.V.P. sound to them. Much of these works stay in an intangible form for most audiences to enjoy. But tracks like “To Spike the Slabs of Eternity” and “Song of the Saw“, have straight forward beats that make them accessible for clubs play. Savage Ideal’s album plays almost like a score to dramatic horror movie that plays on the frays of reality. The songs have their moments and will not let themselves just become quick background music as the hidden track shows us with haunting words “Answer Me!” that come in strong and then fade away in desperation at the end of the collection.
