Artist: VR

CD Title: Quiet Contest

Label: PopFaction

Review by Julie Johnson

VR offers a more relaxed atmosphere with Quiet Contest. The CD has a more acoustic feel to it. The music seems simple, but mesmerizing. The music also has a very homegrown feel to it, and that is probably the most important quality that I have picked up from the CD. "Ohio", the opening track starts off with an acoustic guitar and slowly we hear strings pulling its way into the song. I like how these sounds overlapped each other. The song was instrumental, but it has a feel of sadness, and memories. The CD remains consistent with this sound. The title of the record really says a lot. This is a quiet record with passionate singing, and music that is driven by the heart and soul. "Aquarium" has a very peaceful sound, with the slow ticking sounds and soft cymbals. A good song to relax and dream too. VR really has turned things around with this CD. It is definitely different from the past effort.
