On an EP that seems marketed more to DJs than casual listeners, German EBM act Administrative Punishment offer numerous versions of three songs, starting with an instrumental edit of title track “Brave New World” oriented around the “I see dead people” quotation from the film “The 6th Sense.” Second track “Fire and Forget” is a little more interesting with its mechanized vocal breakdowns, although the lyrics are derivative of Front 242’s “Headhunter” and…well…pretty much every Front Line Assembly song ever recorded. The vocal version of “Brave New World” is better, with lightly distorted singing driven along by the pounding drum machine. “Pain On Demand” is featured only in an instrumental version, and it’s a little bland. Far better is the instrumental edit of “Fire and Forget”; without the vocals and lyrical combat clichés, the bass line rises to the fore, creating a wonderful sense of tension. Any of these tracks would fit in great on the dance floor at a classic EBM club; with so many edits of just a few songs, however, it’s less accessible to casual listeners.
