 Wumpscut- Goth Census

On his newest single, Rudy Ratzinger offers a little something for every Wumpscut fan. "My Dear Ghoul" starts things off with with the dark grandeur that exemplifies the band's more recent output, with spooky church organs, synthetic harpsichords, and electronic choirs humming and moaning over the evil throb of the drum machine, while "We Believe, We Believe" is clean and melodic but also aggressive and cutting. Yendri, who released her latest album on Ratzinger's Mental Ulcer Forges label, fills things out with three remixes. Her mix of "Adonai, My Lord" is subdued but sinister, with tinny arpeggios providing atmosphere over a bass-heavy stomp, while her "Lift-Your-Mask Remix" of "You Are A Goth" adds a subtle, almost house-infused funkiness. A second Yendri mix of the song is sheer old school EBM, recalling the days when Wumpscut first burst on to the scene with tracks like "Soylent Green" and adding a touch of nostalgia for diehard fans of Ratzinger's earliest output. This is a tasty 20 minutes, and if you judge the next album by this, it looks like it's going to be another solid series of beautifully malevolent club killers.
