Biography:

CONTRAPTION is a one-man-army of Kneil. This digitally based project is an ongoing experiment in fusing moods through varying styles of electronica...from electro to drum n bass...and industrial to break beat...always with a sleazy swagger, dirty beat and a passion for the inventive. Driven by the power of a tight, often complex, rhythm arrangement; supplemented by hook line leads, sharp-edged synths and emotive piano, these tracks lend themselves to both the dance floor and ipod.

You may or may not know that Knl is also behind the band Central Dense another electronica and industrial project.

Contraption I" is the name of the debut album released through his own label - "ex1t music" and is available to purchase now! Alongside this is "A.M.T.Y": The "A moment to yourself" E.P. It is a piano-based, genre-blurring collection of emotive work.

CONTRAPTION is now taking on the live electronics circuit to bring you the best possible performance of these tracks and more...the format is still changing and probably will continue to do so.

First impressions of Bad Universe is the effects are deeply embracing, and expressed individually through strong meticulous beats and rabid rhythms that find their way out of the hazy distortion, and forge a solid backbone to a really positive track.

The scene definitely is short of some electronica and so what Knl has produced here is highly welcome and one step nearer to get this under rated genre out there. On speaking to Knl about the forthcoming release he had this to say:

The track has at least 8 layers of guitar at the end of it, which after multiple listens all the layers finally came out and it counts in 5 rather than 4.

When asked what his influences were Knl answered:

I'd say, “Faith no More, Squarepusher, Godflesh, NIN, and Aphex Twin ... That kinda thing.”

What are the ideas behind Contraption and how did they come about?

It's an exercise in craftsmanship, essentially. Central Dense has been such an event, in terms of concepts that it's nice to have this, where it's not like that, not part of a massive narrative. Just tunes that exist on their own.

First impressions of Bad Universe: is the effects are deeply embracing, and expressed individually through strong meticulous beats and rabid rhythms that find their way out of the hazy distortion, and forge a solid backbone to a really positive track.

The passion on this literally spills over the sides as with all good electronic tracks, although I would like to see some vocals laid down, which I think would really give it some identity rather than just a faceless instrumental.

It is a rather mind bending provocation though and most definitely whet’s the appetite for more of the same. Whipping up some strong emotions it digs deep into the psyche which is always a good factor for any track to possess and I think Knl has nailed it with Bad Universe.

Now all we need is to see him get out there and force feed the scene with an electronic injection as more diversity is needed within the narrow field that exists out there.

As a big fan of electronica and industrial I can definitely recommend Contraption and feel that Knl’s efforts won’t go unnoticed and is attention grabbing to say the least although with this track it won’t get you dancing but it has a kind of chillax factor, which is just as good!

8½/10
