Artist: Blac Kolor
Album: Wide Noise
Label: Basic Unit Productions
Genre: EBM
Release Date: February 28th 2014
Following the successful release of their single “Kold” and the associated EP, Blac Kolor have released their first album Wide Noise. The sounds on Wide Noise are in line with what we heard on Kold earlier: a combination of unwavering beats with unsetlling soundscapes. The whole production feels cold and military.
Wide Noise is by all means a strong album, and it sounds like an artic breath of fresh air in the EBM scene which often repeats itself. As on the Kold EP, we see a style that results from experimenting with 90s style EBM, raw electro and neuro-techno.
Besides the cold and distant feeling of Kold, on Wide Noise we see some cultural criticism in “Krook” and “God Bless Amerika”. As such, the lyrical themes on this album are varied as well.
The track “Banging” comes with 2 remixes, and while the track itself is worth a mention, I can't help but hear “bratwurstmesse” being repeated over and over again on this track. Probably not what Blac Kolor had in mind when recording this track.
To conclude: Wide Noise does not disappoint the listeners who were looking forward to this album after the release of the EP Kold. The robot-like icy atmosphere of this album is unique.
