I've been listening to God Destruction's debut release, Illuminatus, for a while now, letting the music sink in for a bit to see if the initial pleasant surprise wore off, and it hasn't. Illuminatus is God Destructions first full-length album, which was released digitally on April 30th, 2012 by Engraved Ritual. God Destruction is a Mexico-based Dark Electronic band founded in 2009.

Some of the qualities I look for in the modern flavor of beat-friendly industrial music are: Do I want to shake my ass? Do I want fist pump and have an uncontrollable reaction to the beat from start to finish? Does it allow me to channel my dissatisfaction with life and the surrounding world in a way that makes me feel cleansed and filthy after listening to the entire disc? Check, although it would be best to keep those induced dreams of fire under wraps after the first few listens, unless you feel that inciting a riot is in your best short term life goals. Can you listen to the whole album, or is it a collection of sound bites left best for those slipshod, bigger label, remix album that keep polluting my ears? God Destruction gives it a respectable effort. Illuminatus definitely doesn't suffer from monotony between tracks and there is some dynamic, always a pleasant surprise in this day and age.

The first five songs seem to be something of a- homage of influence, with obvious parallels to the last decade of black metal influenced aggrotech, all solid tracks in their own right. After the 5th track, “Anticristo,” Illuminatus leaves familiar territory and begins burning a trail for what will likely define the future God Destruction sound. The rest of Illuminatus is a harsh exhilarating ride that can only really be explained by experience. Please buy, listen and enjoy this album. I expect good things to come from this band. Although I would like to hear more of the live drum sound which is present on only a few of the tracks. I would also like to hear some more lyrics that would give me a better perspective on where they're coming from. The band's lyrics are often in English, with Spanish exceptions like in "In Nomine Dei Nostri Satanas", their most popular song. All and all, Illuminatus is a great first release for this band.
