I had the privilege of seeing Psy'Aviah in 2009 at the Waregem Gothic festival, and found their sound intriguing, sitting somewhere between general Electronica and Industrial, but constantly evolving and challenging the listener.
Following on from the success of 2010's Ecletric, "Into The Game" offers 9 different interpretations of the title track, which features Jennifer Parkin of Ayria fame providing vocals.
Now I am always wary of releases that feature a lot of remixes of the same track, as it can sometimes feel like a bit of cash in, and perhaps with this in mind, Psy'Aviah have included a brand new track, "Wired Life" as a sneak peak at the next album, as well as a remix of the popular track 'Voltage' from the "Entertainment Industries" album.
Going back to the original version of the title track, it's a little heavier and more Oontz-y than most of Psy'aviah back catalogue, and packs a strong, danceable groove that is nicely accentuated by Jennifer Parkin's distinctive vocals.
However, it is not Jennifer Parkin's most impassioned performance, and the vocals seem a little subdued to my ears, which is a shame as I think if they were a bit more intense, this track would be great rather than good.
This is a minor criticism of course, the vocals are certainly pleasant enough, and Psy'Aviah have certainly created, to my mind, their catchiest track yet.
The remixes put forward have come from artists such as Suicidal Romance, Diskonnekted and Schwarzblut to name but a few, with the styles ranging from thumping EBM remixes, to commercial dance style through to some more eclectic and interesting mixes indeed.
My personal favourite is the Interface remix. It has a wonderfully powerful kick, which just smacks you in the face and keeps smacking along with some very club orientated sensibilities that will appeal to the EBM and mainstream dance fans alike.
All in all, every remix is of good quality and has its own character, the remix of Voltage is good value for a bit of "old-School" Psy'Aviah, and the new track "Wired Life" is showing a lot of promise for the new album, so this is certainly an EP worth checking out if you have enjoyed Psy'Aviah previously.
7/10 - Recommended Listens - "Into The Game (Interface remix)" & "Into The Game (Schwarzblut remix)
