Artist: God Module CD Title: The Magic in My Heart is Dead E.P. Label: Metropolis Records Reviewer: Robert Eaton Date: 4-25-10 God Module, lead purveyors of “spooky dance music” return with the “The Magic in My Heart is Dead” E.P., their follow-up to 2007’s “Let’s Go Dark”. The E.P. features four new songs, plus remixes and an improbable cover of Gary Numan’s “Me, I Disconnect From You”. The E.P. includes remixes by System Syn, Project Pitchfork and Aesthetic Perfection, a total of eleven tracks altogether. The E.P. opens with the dirge-like title track. “The Magic in My Heart is Dead” includes distorted beats as well as soft pianos and ethereal organs. The song “A Minute to Midnight” is more typical of God Module: dark and danceable. “ART” is probably the strongest song on the E.P., and “Skeptical” is unrelenting and harsh. Shiv-R’s remix of “A Minute to Midnight” is techno influenced and will probably make the rounds on DJ playlists. Project Pitchfork’s remix of “Skeptical” is a strong showing as well. God Module’s own slow bpm remix of “Spooky” (from 2007’s Let’s Go Dark) is on the E.P..This E.P. shows why God Module is one of the premier acts in dark electronic music. Surely there will be much more to look forward to when God Module drops a full-length, tentatively titled “ART”. The E.P. is certainly worth picking up simply for the wealth of material here. It’s been a while between releases, but, the magic, for God Module, is clearly not dead. www.myspace.com/godmodule |
