Artist: Nachtmahr CD Title: Mådchen in Uniform Label: Trisol Music Group Reviewer: Robert Eaton Date: 3-31-10
Nachtmahr is Thomas Rainer’s electronic project. After Rainer’s success with L’ame Immortelle he decided to move in a more electronic and dance-floor oriented direction. “Mådchen in Uniform” is a 12 track E.P., featuring many remixes by bands including Modulate and Feinflug as well as others. The E.P. is full of techno-influenced beats and martial-sounding industrial programming. The E.P.’s title track “Mådchen in Uniform” is an intense floor-stomper, in a surprisingly poppy synth vein. There are two versions of the song on the E.P., again catering to the tastes of DJ’s. It’s a solid dance track. “El Chupacabra” is an instrumental and sure to get a dance-floor moving. “Tanzdiktator” and the remixes of it makes up the bulk of the E.P.’s songs. The remix by Modulate is heavily distorted and a standout version. Also, Fiendflug does a remix of the song “Moerder” that is another standout: aggressive and catchy. Make no mistake, this is music written for DJ’s. There is plenty here that will move a floor. It’s a slightly one dimensional effort. For what it does, however, this E.P. does it admirably well. |
