Velvet Acid Christ - Caustic Disco (single) Interpreting music can be hard and it is often with great trepidation that we voice such opinions. To me Caustic Disco is quite a tongue-in-cheek jab at the club scene and dance music. Knowing what I do about VAC this would seem a fair enough interpretation. In short Caustic Disco is a club track taking a sarcastic stab at the club scene; releasing it as a single, squarely aimed at a clubbing demographic, is all the more humorous. Maybe this is the reason the single includes songs from Bryan Erickson’s early project Toxic Coma, famed with being largely an ongoing joke. Featuring Caustic Disco remixes by Mindless Faith, kAlte fArben, The Twilight Garden and Distorted Retrospect, there is a lot of dance floor goodies. All the remixes are solid and bring varied musical interpretations to the track. Also from VAC’s The Art Of Breaking Apart LP is an alternate mix of Killed In Space, slightly more psychedelic and dance oriented than the album version which had a more serious vibe featuring samples from the sci/fi film Sunshine. Mental Itch and Zombie Sex, from Toxic Coma, bring the single to a close. Zombie Sex is mental and disturbing like a sexual encounter between hideous monsters to a soundtrack produced by evil crack monkies. This is the sort of thing that sends trippers to cowering in dark corners. Mental Itch on the other hand, being more reminiscent of what we might expect from VAC, is nothing like Zombie Sex. This single will have an appeal to VAC fans (especially those that missed Toxic Coma), DJs and would be a great addition to any industrial/dark electro fan’s play lists and music collection.
