If you are into 90’s trance intersecting with that of Revolting Cocks ; then “Wasteful Consumption Patterns” from Akron, Ohio certainly fits the bill. Formed as a one man act by DJ Korpserape; the album “Solder” is said to have been completed almost seven years ago but, the release was delayed for personal reasons. Intolerance Records  decided to release the album in October of 2007.

DJ Korpserape is a self proclaimed mental patient and if his alias and band name is not enough to convince you; then you can always listen to the music. The opening track on the album “Every Single Time” was enough to affirm his claim . Although the vocals were fantastic and the lyrics clever; the beats were dodgy and could effortlessly evoke an anxiety attack.  A stand out track among the madness was that of “Temporary”.  Korpserape’s  sinister whisper declares that “Nothing Lasts Forever”.  I found the track pleasantly haunting and whispered it’s way into the head of the listener. I liked the change of pace in the vocal approach on a track called “Muscular” however, the one track that seemed to jump out at me the most was the album’s last track “Storm”. It was very sensual and atmospheric.

On the whole, I found this album to be very bland. The beats were dated and sporadic. If it is indeed true that album had been completed in 2000, It should have been updated to sound more in step. Perhaps, DJ Korpserape was purposely trying to achieve this irregular sound? If so, he has certainly succeeded. Although this writer failed to entirely connect with this album, I must say there is certainly potential here. The vocals are great and would have been  better showcased behind more intricate programming. Wasteful Consumption Patterns can take a lesson from acts like Assemblage23 and Imperative Reaction.
