Deep Red

Chimera (CD)

Review by Julie Johnson 8/02

Deep Red blends dark danceable electronics to create a blend of gothic that meets EBM. The female vocals are strong and sort of remind me of a Souixsie & the Banshee type feel, but they do match this singer's personality and the style of the music. "Chimera," blasts through with piercing synths and strong drumming to create an intense feel that will wrap you right up in the music. "Moments," is a great song that has a club feel, and is more pop sounding, but still has dark beats. The drumming is thick, and has a heavy pound, while the synths create a moody atmosphere where the vocals really stand out. "Living in Black," is a high-energy track, that is probably the edgy and hardest sounding track. This has male and female vocals, where the male vocals are slightly distorted, and have a bigger part in the song. I think it is perfect for the type of music being performed in this song, and the female vocals are more of a background vocal to give it more of a lush feel. "Living in Black," is one the best danceable songs on this CD. I really fell in love with this track right away, and so will you. "Battle Lines," is another big hit for the CD, with thick and heavy drumming. It has a great bass feel in this song. Again, this is another edgy hard -hitting track with guitars that blend well with the pulsing dark electronics. "Battle Lines," is great for dancing hard. "Books of Fate," is the next song after "Battle Lines," and again this song delivers another powerful punch with high -energy beats, and melodic vocals with a few added effects. Overall, this CD mesmerizes the senses and has a lot to offer an electronic music fan.
