In case you don’t know Fixmer/McCarthy is a new project between Terence Fixmer, and former frontman Douglas McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb. When I first heard “Freefall” is literally sent chills down my spine because it is was so great to hear that voice of Douglas McCarthy again. One thing that I had to do several times was to say this is a new project, this is not Nitzer Ebb. So, if you like the mix of modern electronics and techno influences this is a CD for you. The main attraction of the CD is definitely the drum programming and that voice! “Between the Devil” does not have a lot of the bubbly EBM sounds but more explosive beats that really take over the songs. There are times where they have used more swooping synth sounds but I found that they drum programming was really tight on this CD. With the mix of the programming and the influence of techno is has made for many aggressive melodies throughout these tracks. Some of my recommendations would be, “Destroy”, “Come Inside”, for the more drum programming highlight. For more danceable tracks I would suggest “Splitter”, and “You Don’t Know Me”. The new CD should please many Nitzer Ebb fans as well. “Between the Devil” is a great new electronic assault.
