Less noisy on this new EP, CombiChrist – the harsh EBM side project of Icon Of Coil vocalist Andy LaPlegua – moves away from rhythmic noise into more techno-oriented territory. Think of NoiSex’s later, less grating work, and you’ll be in the right mindset to appreciate the hard, housy rhythm of “Anatomy” or the stomping EBM of “Blut Royale.” What makes CombiChrist so different from other techno-influenced industrial acts, though, is the misanthropic humor. “Tractor” is pure CombiChrist attitude, with lyrics like “I am like a tractor, I am slow but I am fit/And eventually I’ll find you, and crush you like a little shit.” And the live version of “Like To Thank My Buddies” alone is worth the price of the CD. It’s heavy and rhythmic, of course, but more importantly, Andy sounds so much more hateful than even his angriest studio tracks. It’s almost like being there.
