From the great city of New York comes the second release from Liars with “They Were Wrong, So We Drowned” which is a follow up from their first release “ They Threw Us in a Trench and Stuck A Monument On Top”. The Liars express their avant noise, post-punk grooves and hip-hop with bizarre pop sensibilities. As I listened to their CD, it reminded me of very early Sonic Youth, Big Black or Think Tree. 10 fresh tracks on their new release with unusual titles such as the opening track “Broken Witch”, “We fenced other houses with the bones of our own”, “Read the book that wrote itself” and “Flow my tears the spider said”. I would have to admit, the Liars would not be for everyone, and I’m sure their lyrics would sound familiar to something you would hear at a slam poetry club. But put together with drums, guitar, bass and various instruments, it really sounds catchy and interesting. The Liars have toured with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Sonic Youth and have quite a fan base. I would be interested to see what they would produce in the future as stated from their singer Angus Andrew, “This isn’t us forever”.
