The Italian quintet Un-reason released their first CD Un-reason in December 2012. The five gentlemen produce a heavier type of progressive/alternative rock that is influenced by A Perfect Circle, Radiohead and Riverside – to name a few.

Un-reason is an album that might take some time to grow on you. The tracks are shorter than the usually long progressive tracks that are laced with instrumental parts. Un-reason is more straight-forward, but get their complexity from the blend of many different styles out of which which their music is composed.

The music on Un-reason is incredibly dense, and adding the crafty lyrics, beautiful artwork and delicate mixing and production, the resulting album still surprises me at every spin. The band members of Un-reason all have between 15 to 20 years of experience as musicians, and their natural skill shines through every single recorded note.

Un-reason is packed with nuggets of beauty, but a few tracks stand out on this album: the dark “Run Back” that sounds like Radiohead in the OK Computer days, the faster, panic-attack-like “Too Deep” with its hints to Placebo, the pounding prog-track “Kids Hurting Kids” and “This Is Not My Fear” with its sound effect and atmosphere that reminds me of The Gatering's How To Measure a Planet.

With their variety of styles as a point of inspiration, Un-reason have what it takes to bedazzle the audience at a rock festival, yet the complexity and different layers in their music also invite listeners to fully enjoy their record in the comfort of their homes.

Check out the (albeit rather short and not-so-representative) teaser for Un-reason!
