| Artist: The Bravery CD Title: The Bravery Label: Island Reviewer: Matthew Willis Date: 7/25/05 |
These five electro-rockers from New York have stepped to the fore-front of music scene with their self-titled debut album. If you are comparing the guys to “The Strokes” or “The Killers”, then you’ve got it all wrong. They have set themselves apart from the conventional assembly line that is the music industry. With songs such as “An Honest Mistake” and “No Brakes”, their sound is reminiscent of the “New Romantic” era. From the pure perspective of the music itself, it is quite engaging and mood provoking. They will have to continue to build and expand upon their sound in upcoming albums if they are to achieve longevity. Vocalist Sam Endicott croons in a way reminiscent of the late Ian Curtis (Joy Division). If you combine the edgy and distorted vocals with guitars meshed with catchy and on the spot synths, then you have "The Bravery".
