Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck is Boston, MA answer to some of the most extreme and obscure experimental harsh noise, grindcore, power electronics, and performance artists known to man. I recently had the chance to talk to Shane Broderick one of the main members of the project. Take a look into the fucked up world of TDSOGF...

Grave Concerns: Hey Shane, it's good to talk to you again. Tell me how you came up with the name "Two Dead Sluts One Good Fuck". When and how did this project form?

TDSOGF: Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck was formed in the winter of 2001. The band name is just the product of listening to a lot of grindcore and drinking too much whiskey. The entire demo was recorded over a span of a night and no one remembers anything. That’s how it started. Over the years the joke has turned very serious. We have always strived to make music and art that ultimately we would want to hear / see at that particular time. It was a very natural progression. The band was formed so early in our lives that it is pretty obvious that we have matured over the years. We probably should have changed the name at some point but figured that would be a pussy move all things considered. It is what it is.

Grave Concerns: Compare yourself with the rest of the noise scene. In my opinion, you are one of the most original.

TDSOGF: Well… A lot of noise is boring to me. Nothing is exciting about some kid with 5 distortion pedals and a $50 mixer running everything in a feedback loop. I'm only interested in listening to shit that is made by someone who knows what they are doing. I don’t have time for amateurs. For a band that people probably see as a bunch of assholes with no talent… we all have college degrees in sound design, recording engineering and graphic design. We know exactly what we are doing. We come from a grindcore background but have always considered ourselves a “performance art band”. I think that that element might separate us a little bit. For years we had no interest in pulling off our songs live…it was just about the alcohol fueled freak show and getting off. For the past few years all of our music has been based on precise use of analog synthesizer and collectively we have been trying to push the envelope with that and high fidelity recordings where as a lot of noise artists out there might go for the lo-fi tape junk aesthetic. We would like to think that we transcend the “noise scene”. This project is pretty out there and kind of defies classification, genre and all logic. We let our collective personalities and inside jokes kind of run the show. For the most part it seems anyone that isn’t an amateur maybe takes themselves too seriously. We dont give a fuck. We dont play nice with others. For the most part...all of our sounds, art and aethetics come from some place very real. The reason that our art is fucked up is because we are fucked up. This isnt a phase and we are not going away anytime soon.

Grave Concerns: I recently read that you guys are completely banned from performing live in Boston. Can you tell me what brought you to that point?

TDSOGF: Well this is a long story and this directly relates to our “performance art”. Back in the day we used to really go for it. Showing up to shows uninvited, playing and then lighting the basement on fire. That didn’t exactly make us popular with the "scene" in Boston. Punching them in the face, sending them to hospital and general lack of respect didn’t hurt either. Another show that really did us in took place in Somerville Ma. where the owner of PA’s Lounge took it upon himself to “stop our set”. A full scale riot broke out and about 5 police cruisers showed up to break it up. Blood spilled and we ended up in court. Playing the majority of our shows naked and blacked out drunk was kind of “our thing” for awhile. When we opened up for Costes on St. Patrick’s Day in 2007…we pretty much smashed everything and everyone. Even at our very first show we ended up receiving restraining orders from people and a formal letter of disinvite from the town of Manchester NH. We had to live up to that. 100 plus shows and almost a decade later… maybe we are a little bit tamer and it is more about our music. Maybe not though.

Grave Concerns: I see you have a show coming up in Providence with Anal Cunt. How did that get lined up?

TDSOGF: Providence has always been our “other home town”. They have always had a superior music scene in my opinion anyways. The guys down there have been very supportive to our art and we have always had more friends down there. Touring with our sister band “Suffering Bastard” numerous times helped cement that relationship I guess. Those dudes rule. We haven’t got asked to play a show in Boston in 6 years but in Providence it is a different story.

Grave Concerns: Who are some of your favorite artists out today?

TDSOGF: Name dropping isn’t my thing. All my friends bands are good…SxBx, Can’t, Bloodyminded, Warmth, Cock E.S.P., Deathpile, Eugenics Council etc.

Grave Concerns: What has influenced you to make the sounds you make, musically and non musically?

TDSOGF: Drugs played an important role in our development. We also influence each other and the bands previously mentioned probably rub off on us a bit.

Grave Concerns: Who is responsible for your logos and album art? Are there multiple people involved? Do you have any trouble getting your stuff printed?

TDSOGF: We all contribute to our own artwork. Mostly doing it ourselves. We have had Jonathan Canady of Deathpile/Angel of Decay and Emil Hagstrom of Cock E.S.P helping out with recent t-shirt designs too.

Grave Concerns: There are 3 of you that make up TDSOGF. Where is everyone residing these days?

TDSOGF: We were all born and raised in Boston, MA. That is where Ted and I still live. Josh moved out to Portland, OR to pursue a coffee waitress career.

Grave Concerns: What other projects are you guys involved in?

TDSOGF: All of our other projects are much more reserved then this one obviously. I have been working on my solo project Corephallism which is based on analog synth worship. That project is operating pretty much in the Dark Industrial/Ambient and Power Electronics genres. Ted has been releasing material under the name Animal Steel and Josh Hydeman is Josh Hydeman.

Grave Concerns:What do you guys do in your spare time?

TDSOGF: Drink and Fuck.

Grave Concerns: Besides human flesh, what are your other favorite foods?

TDSOGF: Chinese and Mexican.

Grave Concerns:What are your personal favorite films?

TDSOGF: Too busy drinking and fucking for that shit.

Grave Concerns: Tell me what you have planned as far as tours, releases, homicides, ok actually just the first two.

TDSOGF: Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck will be releasing a new 7” “Champagne and Biological Women” ASAP on Bloodlust! which is one of our favorite labels ever. We have split releases coming out on my newly founded record label Lascivious Aesthetics with Cock E.S.P, Warmth and Agoratronic Noisebleed. Corephallism and Josh Hydeman will be touring the US together this June which should be pretty amazing. Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck will only be playing a handful of dates this year but you be sure that we will make them count.

Grave Concerns: What are some of the most notable experiences you have had while on the road?

TDSOGF: Fucking girls in the van, fucking them in front of a church and taking acid while fucking more of them in a park in Toronto. Waking up with the Clap and not remembering who I got it from. Crashing my truck on the highway. Living to tell about it.

Grave Concerns: List some of the bands you have shared a stage (and needles) with.

TDSOGF: All the bands I have previously mentioned we have played with.

Grave Concerns: Do your neighbors complain when you are recording material, or are they pretty lax?

TDSOGF: Neighbors Suck.

Grave Concerns:What do you have to say to your mass of fans, supporters, stalkers, and everybody else reading this?

TDSOGF: You should probably suck my dick next time you see me. It is made out of gold. Tell your friends.
