Cyberpunks from Vancover in Canada was something I had to hear about.  So I looked out Left Spine Down and got chance to speak Kaine Delay.  Here is how it went.

GC – Can you tell us a little bit of a background about yourself and where in this beautiful world you are from?

Kaine – I'm from the future. I was a by-product of a civil war that we're going to have here in North America.

LSD Kaine

GC – How did this civil war start and what part did you play in it?

Kaine – That's classified. I was just sent back here.

GC – Who is the civil war’s winner when you left?

Kaine – That's classified.

GC – At what point in your life did you decide to form your band and why?

Kaine – I was sent back here using military technology and hi voltage electrical currents to help prevent a future catastrophe. I landed in Vancouver about eight years ago and formed a band.

GC – How will forming a band stop future catastrophe?

Kaine – That's classified

LSD Galen

Galen Waling - Left Spine Down

GC – What is it you miss the most from the future?

Kaine – Nothing

GC – Who besides yourself is in the band and what background are they from?

Kaine – Jeremy Inkel on programming and synthesizers, Matt Girvan on guitars, and Galen Waling on drums. Jeremy hails from Montreal but lives in Vancouver, and is in Front Line Assembly. Matt Girvan lives in Vancouver and takes night classes in a local studio, and Galen is from Seattle; we found him playing with local friends Stiff Valentine.

GC – How did you meet Jeremy?

Kaine – I kidnapped him outside a liquor store and coerced him to join the group.

GC – What is the main message of your music?

Kaine – I'll leave that up to you.

LSD Jeremy

Jeremy Inkel - Left Spine Down

GC – What are your musical influences?

Kaine – I've been listening to a lot of Nirvana again lately. We covered "Territorial Pissings" on a remix album we did a while back. I also dig a lot of Radiohead, Devo, Bowie, Eno, Leonard Cohen, Depeche Mode, Ministry, Negativland, Massive Attack, Sonic Youth, Whitehouse, The Clash, Iggy Pop, and Kraftwerk... It’s kind of everywhere really.

GC – How would you describe the music you make?

Kaine – Cyberpunk Rock.

GC – Where do you see your band in five years and what are your hopes for the future?

Kaine – Again that has a lot to do with future events and I'm still experimenting with temporal time travel.

GC – What part in the future civil war does your band play?

Kaine – None. We're here now and not there in the future.

GC – Is there any place or venue you would like to play at and why?

Kaine – I love playing just about anywhere, and we have played at quite a few awesome venues already so perhaps I'll mix this answer with a handful of memories of venues I'd like to come back to.
In no particular order:

1) Fillmore in San Francisco. We played there with Revolting Cocks in 09 and got an engineer who works with Tom Waits and Sonic Youth. She made us sound phenomenal that night. The backstage was beautiful the crew treated us well and I'd love to return.

2) Any House of Blues venue. It was an honour to be on the Revolting Cocks tour and be lucky enough to have been booked in 3 House of Blues venues across North America, I will always welcome a booking at any location.

3) The Rickshaw in Vancouver. They keep the ticket prices at a reasonable rate so *anyone* can come and see their favourite band play. I recently saw The Human League there for a surprisingly low cost, and we play to a full house almost every time we get booked there.

4) I'd like to play the legendary Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver sometime. Just because.

5) I want to play at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle... Just saw the Blu-ray of Nirvana's gig in 91 there and was wowed by the allure of the place.

6) Anywhere in Europe. I know Jeremy can list off a few where we'd do well in.

7) Crash Mansion in New York. Wickedest fetish party I've seen in a while. Xris Smack! If you're reading this return my calls already.

GC – What venue holds the greatest memory for you and the band?

Kaine – Usine C for Kinetik 3.0; I crowd surfed during our set in front of nearly 1000 people.

GC – What is the worst thing that has happened to the band so far?

Kaine – Kicking Andy Dick off our bus.

Left Spine Down

GC – Without giving too much away is there any instrument or program you wouldn’t be without and why?

Kaine – My megaphone. Cuz even if the mic is mixed too low or worse yet the PA is off, I can still communicate to the audience.

GC – Coming from the future what are your views on Robocop?

Kaine - I’ve been to Detroit... It's as bad as the movie predicted *today*, you don't need to travel through time to see this is long overdue. I ordered fried chicken through a bulletproof glass.

GC – Does Darth Vader play a big part in the future war?

Kaine – That was a Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far away. Nowhere near this place.

GC – What happens to ET in the future?

Kaine – Now you're just giving me a hard time.

GC – If you could modify the Delorian from Back To The Future to aid you in the future what would you do to it?

Kaine – I'd probably leave it as is.  Do you know Seth McFarlane owns one and drives around LA in it?

GC – What are your top tips to help us all survive in the future?

Kaine – Always look up.

GC – Thanks so much for giving Grave Concerns this insight into the future, is there anything you would like to add?

Kaine – Spend all your money while you still can. On LSD merchandise.
