Band: My Ruin Interviewer: Daisy Gambit Date: 12/19/05

Formed in 1999, in the wake of leading the infamous band, Manhole (which later became known as Tura Satana), the My Ruin moniker was originally intended to represent lead screamer Tairrie B's new solo project in which she envisioned recording and touring with various musicians and friends. However, shortly after touring for her first album, “Speak and Destroy,” Tairrie met up with the man who would soon change her life and her ideas about once again being in a band. In the Knoxville raised, southern graced guitar hero Mick Murphy, she not only found her songwriting partner, but also her muse. As the story goes, girl meets boy, falls in love and the rest is history, which in its strength and dexterity has perpetuated a solid and dynamic base for what has truly become the heart and soul that is My Ruin. While it’s easy to be misunderstood when a genre is placed upon you, My Ruin know exactly who they are, a band that hates to be labeled and refuses to play the mainstream game of radio friendly, fast food music commercials that have become the latest trend in the world of rock. “We want to do it our way and on our terms” states guitarist Mick Murphy, “and we’ll define what that means for us”. Mick’s songwriting capabilities and musicianship not only spoke to Tairrie on what direction My Ruin should be going, but built upon an already solid devoted band following, which grew, developed and whole-heartedly accepted the musical growth of Tairrie’s original concept.

Soon they brought the solo project into a fully developed songwriting partnership with the album “A Prayer Under Pressure of Violent Anguish” released in 2000 which lead to the live album, “To Britain With Love and Bruises” in 2001 dedicated to their UK fans and in 2003 the EP titled “The Shape of Things to Come” which boasted a 13 minute film noir style movie directed by Miss B herself and quickly set the tone for “The Horror of Beauty" which garnered such praise with quotes as:

The Interview

Q: Whats the best thing about playing live shows with My Ruin?

TB. Getting to play in different cities every night and meeting and connecting with new people. I think it's really cool when we play for someone that has been a fan of the band for a long time and has never had the chance to see us live. That first time is always great for both of us.

Q: What do you feel is My Ruin's greatest achievement?

TB. Our new album "The Brutal Language". Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, QOTSA, Velvet Revolver) mixed it and our guitar player Mick Murphy produced it and played the bass, drums and guitar when our former rhythm section quit during recording. I also believe it is my best vocal performance on record.

Q: Are there new bands that you listen to that you'd recommend for people to check out?

TB. GU Medicine, Scissorfight, Bleed The Sky, Pick Up The Snake... just to name a few of my favorites at the moment.

Q: What plans do you have for My Ruin touring in the USA? Do you have other acts coming on tour with you or is that undecided so far?(on a personal note- I book for alot of bands that would love to perform with your band, let me know if thats a possibility)

TB. We are going to the UK in Jan/ Feb 2006 and then we'll be hitting the road in again in the USA. Not sure with who yet.

Q: What advice would you give to new bands on the scene?

TB. Be yourselves and trust your gut insticts about everything.

Q: What are your favorite places to play shows in the USA?

TB. Knoxville, TN, Los Angeles, Ca, Oklahoma City, Oh, Sioux City, IA

Q: What do you like best about your newest cd?

TB. The fact that our ex-members weren't on it and Mick and I proved we could do it without them.

Q: What does the future hold for My Ruin?

TB. I don't have a crystal ball.... hopefully good things.

Q: Something to say to your fans?

TB. Let the music do the talkin'. Our music says a lot and those who listen understand it.
