Interviews Gothic Interview- Crucifix Nocturnal Christians
Band: Crucifix Nocturnal Christians
Interviewer: Hadrian @ GothicBA
Date: 12/14/03

Who are the members of teh band?

Jorge: The band is formed with Alejandra Mucaled in vocals and lyrics, Jorge Salvador in bass and programming and Marcelo Zoanni in Guitars and arrangements. But the initial members are Alejandra and Jorge.

From since does CNC exist?

Jorge: By the middle of 1996, Alejandra and me (Jorge) decided to give form to our project. So we start to search a guitarist and we form a trio, we always work with machines (computers) and that maintained the original form of the project. For the year 1998, we add keyboards, basically for the concerts and when we record our first cd: "Sacrifice" in the 2000, we use that format. Now days, we are a trio. Then, came the gigs in Germany.

How do you get closer to the Gothic scene?

Jorge: Alejandra and me, we are two dark human beings, either for our nature like for the music that we made always, although when we form the first version of Crucifix we made a mix with our varied influences and the result was what we liked. We didn't worry to belong in a certain musical gender. We made always what we had inside, with all the freedom. When we start to play, people place us in the Gothic scene and at once they identified us as some of the relating ones of the gender. There we discover that we are Gothic.

What compose resources, in the esthetic or in the sound, offers the band when composing? Alejandra: Well, the lyrics talk about of sex, sadism, religion, religious punishments, and of the great duality of the blame of the desires and pleasures. In the esthetic thing, our image has to do exactly with the thematic of the lyrical have. As for the stage, we use big screens in those that we project images related with the lyrics or with the lights we try to make climates and atmospheres. Jorge: About the sound, well you know that in "Sacrifice" we achieve a very personal and characteristic sound of the band, our biggest resource it’s maybe the Alejandra's voice and the form that she executes the lyrical. With a series of dark melodies with harmonic guitars, keyboards and assemble of textures and with a hypnotic and strong base between the bass and the drums.

About the esthetic thing the concerts of the band, the fetish and sexual image, is that something that you looked directly? Jorge: We don't look for it. The lyrical and the way of singing are the result of what provokes to us our own sounds, many times we base the thematic and the image on our daily lives or in the experiences that we have lived.

How is live CNC? . What things people find when go to see your shows? Alejandra: With a show very care until in the last details, you will meet with musicians really playing live music, with all the power that it implies it. You will meet a good stage, a dark atmosphere, for moments aggressive and melancholic.

What memories have you of the WGT?

Alejandra: To have played in the 10° Wave Gotik Treffen (2001) in Leipzig, Germany it was a great experience for us, since 1999 we were having a great response of the public with "Sacrifice" in Europe and to play there it was the most great thing that we get worked many years in professional way. First, to have been chosen our band to participate in this important festival, we were the first band of South-America to play there, second, because we really get prepared to give a professional show to stay at the level of European bands that played there, and third, with the enormous satisfaction of feeling the good response of the public, and all the repercussions that we had after the show, and that today we still have.

What can you say to us of the new CD?

Jorge: "Circus of Angels". About the sound and in the way of working, we have programmed the keyboards making them more functional with the drums; with Marcelo in guitars have achieved a different, more aggressive sound but with a lot of wealth also. Marcelo is one of the best Gothic guitarists that there is in the world, it is very professional and he has an incredible technique. I believe that there is a remarkable evolution in our music. The years have given us an experience that finally could capture in this CD. It’s like if before you had a version of CNC when you listened to "Sacrifice" and when you saw us live you met with a more actual sound and more strong and compact, since after the first CD we begin to work with another technology and naturally our sound changed a lot with reference to the other CD. Now the distance among what you listen in “Circus of Angels” is nearer to our live sound. With many climates and psychic states. Alejandra: I believe that “Circus of Angels” it is more mystic, the songs go changing creating states of spirits, it is a journey for different dark places, from almost laments until the force of the sadism. Circus is really an exact description of the spirit of Crucifix nocturnal christians.

What projects do you have for the future?

Jorge: To play much more often than now, to try to give concerts in the countries in which there are a lot of people that writes us and to tour for America and Europe.

Last words...

Jorge: I believe that there are tendencies to divide the music and the actual sound. Let us don't fall in the error of dividing the Gothic, electronic scene, Gothic-rock, Death-rock, Medieval, etc. We all belong and we are part of the same thing, a darkness that invites to be enjoyed.

Alejandra: Thanks Hadrian, for the interview!!! And for that one wants to know us and to listen to us: www.sealonia.com/crucifix or write us to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
