Interviews Gothic Interview- Dorcha
Band: Dorcha
Interviewer: Julie Johnson
Date: 10/12/04

Dorcha is a darkwave artist based in Milan (Italy). His name is the gaelic translation of Dark. He loves art for art, dark atmospheres, decadent european literature, to transfer his sufference into his songs.

GC: What is the name of the band and who are the current members

Dorcha: My name is Dorcha, alias Stefano Gagliardo (voice and guitars, lyrics and melodies). Simone Orsi is my drummer and Angelo Graziano is my bass player.

GC: How did you become connected to make music?

Dorcha: I meet Simone during a live performance in Milan, where we currently live both. We performed in two different rock bands. We liked each other, so we decided to start playing together. Angelo joined the band one year ago, replying to a job posting.

GC: What are your musical influences?

Dorcha: The Cure, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Depeche Mode, The Smiths...

Dorcha: It's about a mix of quiet reflections and violent metal riffs. We don't look like rock stars, but we try to impress the audience above all by our music.

GC: Tell us about your own unique style of music?

Dorcha: I'm the composer of all the songs, so our music is above all the result of my fears and my musical influences. The other components of the bands are very important as for the arrangements. I think that our style is personal, sad and tormented.

GC: What separates your band from all the other bands out there?

Dorcha: I hope the quality of the lyrics and the beauty of the melodies. I feel strongly all the topics I wrote about in my songs.

GC: How do you go about writing songs?

Dorcha: Generally the melodies come into my mind naturally, as well as the lyrics, during few minutes. The problem is that often I have to match a melody and a lyric created in two different times.

Dorcha: I wrote Lo specchio nero some years ago during a holyday in my house in the mountains. Half an hour to create the melody, a week to arrange the song. A month passed before I was able to write the lyrics. I recorded the songs some years before, when I agreed with Decadance Records for the distribution.

GC What is your latest news with the band?

Dorcha:"We're about recording the bass and drums tracks of two new songs for Elnor Productions (Italy).

GC: Where do you hope to be in 5 years with your band?

Dorcha: I hope that my band has the possibility to record for any label all the songs I've already written and I hope to play live more and more.

GC: How are people currently reacting to your music?

Dorcha: If the audience is interested to our music style, they're generally very impressed. Unfortunately sometimes we play in pubs where the audience is interested in other styles.
