Interviews Gothic Interview- Deadfilmstar

deadfilmstar resides in United Kingdom, and they are a cool-sounding band that delivers on more than just a name---but with their music; which is, a combination of goth-rock-alternative blending…and it’s insanely awesome! And from the interview below, you’ll absolutely be intrigued even more. Thanks again…so, so, much deadfilmstar for the interview…it’s been fabulous! (:

Grave Concerns: Dark and deathly greetings deadfilmstar, it’s so cool to have you here at the grave. How are things going for you sir?
Very well thank you madam!
GC: AWESOME to hear…you’re so very welcome.
Grave Concerns: When do you find you’re most creative; and do you have a special place to help bring out that creativity with more clarity?
All depends...Shit just pops in your head! I tend to put idea's down on a dictaphone.
GC; I hear ya, friend. Hey, whatever works. It’s the creative outcome that matters.
Grave Concerns: What comes first in your creative process of song making? Do you hear the melodies or feel the lyrics? Or do you go back and forth?
Both. A song can start in one direction and then lead you to another. I have a habit much to the annoyance of some of the band members to just scrap anything I think is not working.
Grave Concerns: I’m so diggin’ your songs up on your MySpace player; “Complete” and “Through”…”Complete” is just so fabulously original and upbeat it drives me bonkers with excitableness. Keep the music comin’!
Well, thank you! 'Complete' has worked very well live. One of my main worries is whether a particular track will work in a live environment.
GC: Why you’re VERY welcome!
Grave Concerns: I looked under SoundClick and you’re racing up the chats with ease my friend. Under the Rock category you’re #221 out of 156, 822 songs; and in the Goth Rock category you’re #15 out of 3,450 songs---that’s so awesome! Congratulations, you must be stoked! (:
Complete has been no.2 in the Gothrock chart and no.15 in the Rock chart - It's only bloody 'Inkubus Sukkubus' that have stopped us from the no.1 position but, hey that's no bad thing!
Grave Concerns: Tell us about the title of your album, “A.rtistic I.ntegrity” and what the songs to you represent?
With A.I. I wanted a slight change in musical direction - We could have banged out more material just like the last but, where's the torment in that?
The album reflects how, and at the time I was feeling after the tour with 'Mortiis'. I was exposed to the more negative aspects of the music business and found myself doing things that I would
never normally do. I also found the corporate way of thinking dominating individuals at every level within *this* music scene.
Inevitably I had to stop and ask myself, did I really want to be part of something that to me, was becoming less and less to do with music?
I fear we're heading into a phasing out of a musically freethinking Internet and are being introduced to a Big Brother - "You will listen to what we want you to listen to" approach -
much the same way most radio stations have been for many years now.
Grave Concerns: Ok, my creepy cool friend---you’ve got such a whacked-out album photo---LOVE it! What are the inspirations behind it?
I wanted to portray something mechanical and puppet like that was in a desperate way of being. I have an artistic friend with whom I work on photographic idea's that always seems to capture and convey what I want.
Grave Concerns: How do you differentiate a real good song, from a classic? In other words, what really makes a song stand out and last? And with your music, which song or songs do you feel have met that challenge, have come close to it, or are you currently just enjoying the creative bliss?
Ha, a 'deadfilmstar' classic!? - I'll go with creative bliss...
Grave Concerns: How did you come up with you name? It’s very provocative---I like it a lot!

'deadfilmstar' was taken from a fazine I once read called 'Dead Rock Star'. At the time I was sampling a lot of films such as 'What Ever Happened To Baby Jane' and 'Mommie Dearest' a la 'deadfilmstar'
Grave Concerns: Being a member of MySpace, how has it helped, or hindered your musical endeavors? And which countries do you feel have embraced your music the most?
From a band perspective I think it's important to understand that only so many of your MySpace 'friends' actually give a shit about you!  I've messaged people from all over the world and what genuinely amazes me is the amount of people that have wrote to me and were surprised that I wrote back to them?  What I want to know is - if you’re in a band at what point do you think people aren’t worth writing back to?
GC: You’ve got that right---such a fantastic answer…tops on that one!
Grave Concerns: Do you believe in ESP and ghosts or “other” unexplainable occurrences?
I definitely believe this ain't it...
Grave Concerns: Have you used an Ouija board, or had your fortune read?
Yes - Ouija board.
Grave Concerns: What time is it right now? And what did you do 9hrs. and 29 minutes ago?
It's 12.02p.m
Sleep and why 9hrs.29mins?
GC: I like to be different.
Grave Concerns: A fictitious record company (you can even name it too, if you like) has the tough decision of choosing only one band to sign, out of three possible ones. The bands are ALL fabulous, the decision then---is to choose the band based on their name.
1. The Deadly Vixens of Moss Hill
2. The Forgotten Sisters of Devil’s Cave
3. Blood Prickers
I'm just trying to picture myself keeping a straight face as the band introduce themselves as 'The Blood Prickers'!
GC: (:
Grave Concerns: Any regrets? How about future hopes?
This band has gone further than I could have ever have imagined when it was being thought up in a back bedroom - Only a couple of week's ago we were playing the third largest UK metal festival - Bloodstock Open Air so, no regret's!
Grave Concerns: Favorite holiday, color, number and symbol?
Sleep, black, 4, III
Grave Concerns: OK---we’re going to play a card game---poker. Deal yourself 5 cards. The Jack of Hearts and the 10 of Diamonds are wild. Discard what is not wanted, and pick off of the deck, the card(s) needed to complete your final hand. What did you get? I’ll tell you my hand when I post your interview.
I'd get the Jokers every time!
Grave Concerns: You’ve been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame---whose name are you next to?
The one with the chewing gum stains.
Grave Concerns: Grave Concerns: I’m giving you 13 letters to choose from, in any order; you only have to use 6 of them (you can use more if you want, but not less than 6) and you have to make up a phrase describing an encounter with a woman whom you met on a train, and who you saw three weeks later by the pond, where the train passed over. The only thing…she’s been dead for over one hundred years. But only with these letters...ITRKHDLWNCBYA.
TRICKY.
Grave Concerns: Do you think evil is born or raised? How about the goodness in people? Can people change…for the better, and for the worse?
Oh, definitely raised.
Sometimes I despair at what is considered to be part of the human race but, we’re all to blame in one way or another. People can change for better or worse.
Grave Concerns: I’m thinking of a number from 0 to 7,222. What it is? I’ll tell you what mine is when I post your interview.
929
GC:3,301
Grave Concerns: You were born with eyes that weren’t human---what do they look like?
Yes, I was – black.
Grave Concerns: Grave Concerns: If you had the chance to travel back to the past, where would you go, and what would you want to leave as a reminder of time spent, as well as, something to take back with you?
To the right place at the right time.
Nothing.
Grave Concerns: You have three doors from which to choose. Each one is a solid black wooden door. One will take you to what you fear most; one will take you to what you hope for most; and one will change you in ways never imagined. Which one do you go through, and why?
But, all the doors lead to the same thing?
Grave Concerns: You’ve been asked to create a new word defining your style of music. What is that word?
Now wouldn’t that be helpful?
GC: Umm, yup!
Grave Concerns: What is your drink of choice? And what are some of your favorite foods?
Whatever you’re buying.
Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate!
GC: Nice my friend…and oh, yum to chocolate!
Grave Concerns: What is something about the human race that really gets you down…make you wonder…how could that person do that, act that way…say that?
Too many things.
Grave Concerns: What then, on the other hand, does the human race do to make you feel simply proud and amazed by?
Selflessness.
GC: I like that answer.
Grave Concerns: Write whatever comes to your mind after reading the following:
1. Whispers came from the shed, a place that…hides.
2. The last words she said to me before the…lies.
3. It tasted so sweet, so fresh, so…right.
4. The fungus on my knuckles…yuk!!
5. We’re not the only ones…aren’t we?
Grave Concerns: When you go to the movies where do you like to sit? And have you ever left because the movie was just awful?
About middle.
Nearly.
GC: I’m in the middle too. And yes, I have left…twice.
Grave Concerns: Have you walked by someone who gave you the chills…for no logical reason, other than you just felt something was not right?
Not walked by but walked with!
Grave Concerns: Do you have tattoos or piercings?
No, but some of the band have. I think Esther's got about 13 piercings.
Grave Concerns: Have you had one of those tickles in your throat, that you try to ignore at first, but it just keeps getting more and more irritating and then your eyes water like a broken faucet, nose junk, 1/2 mile long pours out, and your face becomes all sweaty and red?
Sounds like me at sound check!
GC: Lol!
Grave Concerns: How do you define happiness and love?
When nothing else matters.
GC: Very lovely.
Grave Concerns: Tell us two things about yourself that your fans would be surprised to know about you?
We have fans?
GC: Yes Dear.
Grave Concerns: What would you like to say to your fans right now?
You keep telling me about these fans??
Grave Concerns: What can we expect to hear from deadfilmstar in the future?
We have started on the next album but, only ideas. I wouldn’t expect a CD release until early 2010 or if at all? Digital download is becoming the norm so CD may be obsolete by then.
I know Nightbreed, the label that released A.I. for us are in the throws of putting that into digital download. So, we shall see...
Grave Concerns: Anything else you care to share with us about yourself and your sickeningly cool and killer music?
Yes, I'll be uploading one more Mp3 from A.I. for you to steal very soon.
Grave Concerns: deadfilmstar, this has been a very awesome interview---you’re very talented and so dark and creepy that it just excites me! And we here at Grave Concerns wish you much success with your creativity and with your album “A.rtistic I.ntegrity. Please keep in touch! Dark Cheers!
Thank you and thank you for having us!
GC: You’re VERY, VERY, welcome, sir.
