Interviews Ethereal Interview- All My Faith Lost

Grave Concerns: Hey Viola and Federico how are you?

 …Too busy…

Grave Concerns: How did you guys meet? Was it an instant musical attraction?

At the beginning AMFL were Federico and Francis, we were looking for a female vocalist and Viola decided to join the band immediately after listening our music.

Grave Concerns: Before music came into your lives, what jobs did you have?

Viola was and still is a student and I was and still I am an employee…we are so far away from living only with the incoming of our music.

Grave Concerns: What has been the most beautiful sunrise or sunset that you’ve seen?

We are still waiting for both of them…hoping they will come soon.

Grave Concerns: If you were able to put on a concert for charity, which one/s would you be supporting, and which artists would you like to headline?

It’s very hard to choose who are the one more in need of help, this world is full of people who suffer and the future will bring more sufferance, not less. About the artists, we would chose very big artists so a lot of people would come to the event…but we don’t think we would call U2 …

Grave Concerns: As team collaborators, what have been the most difficult compromises to been made, regarding lyrics and music? How do you move forward, when something you’d really wanted to be considered, is not mutually felt?

We consider ourselves very lucky, no one ever told us what to do with our music, Roger Karmanik at Cold Meat Industry leaves the artists their space!

Grave Concerns: How did you come up with the name all my faith lost? It’s a very provocative title…a very deep and provocative album, too is “The Hours”.

The name of the band came after some time the band was active, I thought about the fact people can give it his own interpretation and we also left the three dots at the and, just to give more mystery. The name of the album has a deep meaning for us, The Hours are the long ones we spent for making the album. The Hours is a title of one of our favourite movies about Virginia Woolf that also influenced our album.

Grave Concerns:  I read that you presented your new album “The Hours” at “Gorizia” an Italian castle on Saturday, October 13th? Castles fascinate me; please tell me more about this place.

We just know it was really beautiful…medieval…and full of mystery. It was a pity we did not have too much time for visiting it.

Grave Concerns: “House of Incest” speaks volumes in itself, and if it weren’t for the title, but just the lyrics read, one may not have be able to take hold of the song’s crypt’s message. Do your songs reflect upon your own personal stories, or are they stories of people you know?

House Of Incest like all the songs of this new album is inspired by Literature. This track in particular was deeply influenced by Anais Nin “House Of Incest”… so, nothing from our personal experiences.

Grave Concerns: I truly believe that one never knows how strong he or she is until faced with evil. The soul of a person feels so much. Healing takes on many forms, and writing, in all its incarnations has been a blessing to me. I take it, it has for you too, in one way or another?

We think that making music is one of the things that in some way helps us to cure the ugliness of this world and the pain that sometimes fills our soul, music helps us to feel better…

Grave Concerns: Viola, you look exquisite in the photo up on your MySpace page where you’re dressed in a flowing creamy-colored skirt and lacy shirt. Who took that picture? I also LOVE the one of you and Federico outside with the lake and trees behind you---where was that taken? Do you or Federico get to offer up your own interpretations of how you’d like your pictures to come out?

We took both pictures, (yes the second one is an autoshot and I know it seems hard to figure out, but there is no lake at all. It’s a wall, an abbandoned cemetery wall). We are not photographers, but we try to set up pictures that could in some way have some mystery, some effects that could remind our music. Anyway we think in the future we’ll ask the help of someone who is more professional than us.

Grave Concerns: If you were to plant a tree to symbolize something special in your lives, where would that tree be planted, and what kind is it?

We are not really good with Agriculture… probably we would write a song to remind something special in our live, don’t you think? J

Grave Concerns: Italy is a gorgeous country, full of history, architecture, sculptures, food, wine, scenic beauty---please share some of your county's most important and wonderful places you like to travel to?

Italy has so many things to see, even for us it’s really hard to choose some places to see before than others. Rome, Florence, and Venice are absolutely to see but also our region (Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the north-east) has a lot of wonderful small jewels to discover.

Grave Concerns: Write whatever comes to your mind after reading the following:
1. The rain fell…all the day.
2. There was something in the air that reminded me…of a deeper purity.
3. As I approached the old bridge…This reminds us of a passage of Carmilla by J.S. Le Fanu.

Grave Concerns: Who are some of your favorite painters and writers?

Painters: Klimt, Munch, De Chirico…
Writers: Samuel Beckett, Anais Nin, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Isabella Santacroce, Simona Vinci, Virgnia Woolf, Banana Yoshimoto, Paolo Nori, Janette Winterson, Alessandro Baricco…how much space do we have?

Grave Concerns: What do you feel are the biggest misconceptions about your style of music? Have you’ve been able to sway those who once weren’t to keen on it; or do you just let it roll, and continue to do what you love? And what is it about the Gothic scene that is so appealing to you?

There are some people who told us we are only Italian guys thinking about the outfit, someone else said that Viola is not able to sing, we really don’t care about them…we pretend serious motivations if someone does not like what we do!

Grave Concerns: As a musician, how does the music in movies affect you? And if you were asked to compose a song for a soundtrack, which genera would that be in? Now let me take that question even further---actually backward; if you were to go back to the past, with your current music in hand, and were asked that same question, would any of your songs stand out as a good fit? If so, which song and movie would it have been?

These are really hard questions… we think our music could be very good in movies...but sincerely we never thought about what kind of movie we would chose. Of course it would not be a comedy!

Grave Concerns: Now, if you’d be so kind; how about summing up in five words or less, what it feels like being a member of all my faith lost?

All my faith lost…means for us:
Believe me...it is really too hard to express in just 5 words what means to live as All My Faith Lost…there are sooo many good and bad things!

Grave Concerns: You’ve been asked to create a new word defining your style of music. What is that word?

We could create a new word that means: romantic, melancholic music that comes from the heart…it’s hard to put all this stuff in only one word, don’t you think?

Grave Concerns: What do think makes your music stand out among other artists in your field?

We don’t know if we stand out among other ethereal artists, there are so many good bands. We only know we play music that we really like; we hope that our listeners will like it too.

Grave Concerns: I’m giving you 13 letters to choose from, in any order; you only have to use 6 of them (you can use more if you want, but not less than 6) and you have to make up a phrase describing an encounter with a beautiful array of frosted orange, white, pink and purple roses illuminated in a garden by hundreds of fireflies. But only with these letters…PBNVJUYRACTLO.

I’m sorry, we can write in English, but it is not our mother language...

Grave Concerns: Being a member of MySpace, how has it helped, or hindered your musical endeavors? And which countries do you feel have embraced your music the most?

MySpace gave us the opportunity to get in touch with lot of people and fans. We also organized some live gigs and other things with people we met in Myspace. But MS is also something that takes us a lot of time to manage. Most of our fans are from Germany, South America and Italy.

Grave Concerns: When do find you’re most creative, in reference to writing lyrics and music?

Of course at night.

Grave Concerns: Since your music has such lovely and fantastic influences of other worlds, surrounded by lyrics that feel such sadness and pain, if you could create your own magical place, what would it be called, and how would it look?

A magical place for us would be called “Earth” and would be a place with people living a better live than the one they are living right now.

Grave Concerns: Since nature is very precious to me, I tend to be drawn more toward the Earth element. Although each one has its own special attributes, together they are priceless. Which element do you see yourselves more drawn toward?

Of course we are very fascinated by the water…the sea, the lakes, the tears.

Grave Concerns: Where do you envision all my faith lost to be in the next 3 to 5 years?

Very hard to say, we hope somewhere better than where they are now.

Grave Concerns: Do you throw coins in the fountain and make wishes?

Yes, we did and probably we will keep on doing it.

Grave Concerns: Do you believe in ESP and ghosts or “other” unexplainable occurrences?

Yes, there is some other kind of life somewhere.

Grave Concerns: Favorite number and symbol?

11 and a cross.

Grave Concerns: Proudest moment yet?

Being In front of more than 1000 people at the Wave Gotik Treffen 2007.

Grave Concerns: What would you like to say to your fans right now?

Thanks!

Grave Concerns: Viola and Federico, it’s been a delight to interview you. We here at Grave Concerns wish you a world of wonderful and special feedback with your new album “The Hours”. Keep in touch. Cheers!
