Interviews Alternative, Indie Rock Interview- Devilish Presley

Band: Devilish Presley
Interviewer: Julie Johnson
Date: 8/4/04

GC: Whats the name of your band and Who are the current members?

Devilish Presley and the members are Jacqui Vixen on Bass and vocals, Johnny Navarro on guitar and vocals.

GC: How did you become connected to make music?

DP: As above so below. It was a correspondence course for magikal movers and groovers called "The electric ballroom" in Camden London.

GC: What are your musical influences?

DP: Robert Johnson, T-Rex, The Cult, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Pixies, JAMC, The Clash, Joan Jett, The Ramones, The Cramps......

GC: What is your live show like?

DP: A full on Rock n Roll assault that takes no prisoners. We try to generate as much energy as we can, the audience usually react to it which in turn spurs us on to further acts of craziness.

GC: Tell us about your own unique style of music.

DP: The combination of pastiche panache and pouting. We take simple elements (base metals) and turn them into gold.

GC: What serparates your band from all the other bands out there?

DP: Sheer unadulterated greed.

GC: How do you go about writing songs?

DP: We write our songs real quick like spontaneous combustion. The songs are all a part of the "one great song" and we chip a little off the block.

GC: Pick one of your latest songs and talk about everything from writing it, meanings, the challenges of recording it?

DP: "Hammer Horror Glamour" Off of next years "Memphisto" album (November Tenth records 2005).Classic example. The riff and entire beat came in one jam session, and the words express our darker purpose. Hammer Horror films were the staple late night TV in the uk and Glamour infuses our muses. The challenge of recording it is finding the money to do so.

GC: What is your latest news with the band?

DP: We are about to play at the prestigious "Pagan Love Songs" in Germany with USA legends Frankenstein on Friday September 10th (Be there or be dead).

GC: Where do you hope to be in 5 year with your band?

DP: A small villa in Italy, a glass of red wine in hand with our "memories" and a huge bag of cash.

GC: How are people currently reacting to your music?

DP: Violently :-)!

GC: What would be the top 3 reasons for listening to you music?

1.Extreme good taste.

2. To hear some top quality Rock n Roll as recommended by GRAVE CONCERNS!.

3. To hear the last of the great underground bands from the U.K.

GC: What is your best experience as a band?

DP: This year really. Great reviews, playing with and meeting Bella Morte, Deep Eynde, Last Days Of Jesus and all the crazy loons we have encountered on the "Disgraceland" tour.

GC: What is your worst experience as a band?

DP: Norwich (city of the dead).

GC: What is most important to you in your band?

DP: We are.

GC: Do you have a personal favorite song?

DP: "Campbells farewell to his highland home" . If not that classic then "She's Not America" by Devilish Presley.

GC: What was the hardest song to write and why?

"Pin Cushion Girl" Dragging up memories of unrequited love and the fiddley tuning.

GC: What do you think of the current gothic/ EBM/ Industrial/ noise/ synthpop etc scence today?

Not a lot!

GC: What music do you current listen to?

DP: Old blues records. Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson, Son House, Hound Dog Taylor.

GC: Feel free to do any shameless self promotion here of you band, now is your turn to talk about anything you want about your band, ideas, or life in the band.

DP: Please be kind to animals! Try and be the ears and eyes of the creator of the universe. Don't make any bullets, don't shoot any bullets and don't piss in the water supply! Love to you all from Jacqui and Johnny.
